It only takes 25-30% of a community to shift a cultural norm⁽¹⁾. This pledge intends to demonstrate that families across our town are creating a new “everyone else is doing it” narrative.
Only your child’s First Name, Last Initial will appear (for privacy) which is enough to recognize friends in the grade and see proof that you are not alone. As you do in so many other ways, you are pledging to give your kid the best possible childhood - and our choices impact our community.
One way to make it easier to hold out is by choosing a kid-safe phone which avoids the danger and distractions of smart phones. You can absolutely give your child a basic phone and still honor the spirit of this pledge. Over 350 kids in Rye alone were part of this growing movement last year (click here to check out the list). Here’s to shifting the norm.
